JAKARTA - To support the expansion of electric trucks, electric buses, and other electrical equipment production, the Volvo Group announced that it has started work on building a large-scale battery plant in Sweden.

Over the past few years, the Volvo Group has emerged as a leader in the production of electric trucks and buses such as the VNR Electric, the Volvo FL Electric, the Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated bus, and even electric construction equipment such as the ECR25 Electric compact excavator.

"To meet the growing demand for battery electric vehicles and machines, the Volvo Group has started the process of establishing a large-scale production plant for battery cells in Sweden", the company wrote in a release.

Not only that, Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of the Volvo Group said that he aims to lead the transition to a carbon-free transportation system and has long-term ambitions to offer his customers 100% fossil-free solutions.

The location of the plant is subject to licensing and public consultation, but the Volvo group is currently evaluating the site at Mariestad in the Skaraborg region of Sweden.

The Volvo Group also plans to gradually increase capacity and achieve large-scale series production by 2030.

The battery cells will be specifically designed for commercial vehicle applications, supporting the global rollout of electric trucks, buses, construction equipment, and electric drivelines for a wide range of applications.
