JAKARTA - US supermodel Bella Hadid has stepped from the catwalk to the metaverse with the launch of CY-B3LLA - a Non-Fungible Token collection featuring artwork based on 3-D scans of her face and body.

Hadid, 25, told Reuters in an interview from New York that she was attracted to shared cyberspace and that she wanted to make a "cool version" of herself after becoming obsessed with video games during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Previously, she said on her Instagram account that she had created NFT to "encourage travel, community, growth, fantasy and human interaction".

An NFT is a digital asset that exists on a blockchain, a record of transactions stored on networked computers. All kinds of digital objects - including images, videos, music, and text - can be bought and sold as NFT.

"It was a lot of fun," Hadid said of the process, saying the end result actually had "the right facial expression."

The collection consists of 11,111 NFTs and was created in collaboration with the reBASE NFT printing platform. The inspiration for the NFT CY-B3LLA came from 10 different countries, with input from local artists.

"To see the version of me made by their brains is really interesting... There are so many different versions of me that you can make and not versions that I can dream of," she said.

The locations and accompanying digital assets will be announced between now and September, with the first batch featuring images of the Japanese-inspired robot-style Hadid.

Each NFT also serves as a passport to the global community, unlocking prizes and allowing holders access to real events that Hadid attended.

The date when this NFT can be picked up has yet to be announced, but interested buyers can register online.

"It's great to see people really want to get involved," Hadid said.

"Every time I put something out, it's like a birthday party, like nothing is going to show up. So it's great to see ... people are really ... listening and understanding it," she said.
