JAKARTA - Square Enix has claimed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will skip the release on PS4, and become a PS5 exclusive game.
This decision seems to be different from the previous game, Final Fantasy VII Remake which was released for PS4 in 2020, and then released PS5 and PC versions the following year.

According to Gematsu, in an interview with Japanese publication Gamer, Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase claimed there were several factors involved in the decision not to release the game for PS4. One of them is SSD speed.
“It's exclusive to the PlayStation 5 because of the graphics quality, of course, as well as the SSD access speed. We felt we needed the PlayStation 5 specs to handle it and travel the world comfortably," he said.
According to a report from VGC, the 2020 PS5 SSD is positioned as Sony's key feature for the next generation, with architect Mark Cerny calling the storage drive a "true game changer."
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced during Square Enix's 17th anniversary in June, that it would be a sequel to its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the series will eventually feature three full games. Specifically, the trilogy will consist of the Final Fantasy VII Remake already released on PS5 and Steam namely Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and one final game that has yet to be announced.
