How To Unlock Android Phone Screen Without Pressing Power Button

JAKARTA - In today's digital era, cellphones have indeed become part of our lives. Especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, activities such as studying, working, and communicating, all use cell phones.

To provide convenience, you should make sure the phone you are using is working properly. Because if not, then your activities will be disrupted and will get less than optimal results.

The power button is an important part of the phone. Make sure your power button is working. If it doesn't work on your Android phone, or you're tired of having to press it all the time, there are many alternative ways to unlock and lock your Android device.

Here are some ways to unlock and wake your screen without the power button.

1. Automatically Makes Your Phone Wake or Sleep

While most modern Android phones already have a built-in lift to wake feature, if you're using an older phone model, you can still enjoy this cool feature thanks to an app called Gravity Screen.

Gravity Screen is a smart app that can detect your phone's motion. Based on sensor data, it can unlock the phone as soon as you pick it up or take it out of your pocket.

This app can also work the other way around. So when you put your phone on a table or in your pocket, Gravity Screen will automatically turn it off.

First, you just need to download the app from the Play Store. When installed, launch it and grant Device Administrator permissions. Just that.

2. Take Advantage of Your Phone's Biometric Sensor

On phones with fingerprint sensors or facial recognition features, you don't need the power button or third-party apps to unlock the phone.

All you have to do is put your finger or show your face. So, if it is available on your phone, go ahead and set it up. You should be able to find it under Settings > Security.

Additionally, some versions of Android have a software-based face unlock authentication mode. It doesn't require any special sensors and relies solely on the front camera to scan your face.

The Android face unlock feature is usually in Settings > Security > Smart lock > Trusted face or Settings > Security > Face recognition.

3. Double tap to Lock and Unlock Android

To see if the double tap to turn on screen and double tap to turn off screen features are enabled on your Android device, go to Settings to see them.

On Samsung phones, you need to go to Advanced Features > Gestures and Gestures. Within the gestures and gestures section, you'll be able to find a number of handy settings, including double-tap to turn your screen on and off.

Or, if double tapping the screen to lock and unlock Android still doesn't work, you can use a third-party app like Screen Off.

Screen Off adds a handy shortcut on your phone's home screen. You can tap it to lock your phone immediately. The app also supports Google Assistant, so you can say "Hey Google, Go Screen Off," and the voice assistant will automatically turn off the screen.

4. Wave to Unlock and Lock Your Phone

If you try to wake the screen without the power button, you can also replace the power button by hand.

There's an app called WaveUp that lets you wake or lock your phone by pointing your hand at the proximity sensor. Similar to Gravity Screen, WaveUp can light up the screen when you take your phone out of your pocket.

WaveUp also has a fast setup process. By default, it is activated with an unlock gesture. To use it to lock the phone, enable the Lock Screen option and grant Accessibility permission.

5. Explore Your Other Phone Default Gestures

While the double tap to wake gesture is one of the most popular gestures to wake your phone, other devices have different features you can use.

A common one is Lift to Wake, which automatically turns on your screen every time you lift your device. To see if your phone has a Lift to Wake feature, try searching in the search bar located at the top of Settings.

While Lift to Wake won't unlock your phone without the power button, it will allow you to enter a passcode once the screen turns on, or access the in-display fingerprint scanner.

If you want your phone to be unlocked when you use the lift to wake feature, consider enabling the Smart Lock feature.

You will find your phone's Smart Lock feature in your Lock Screen settings. Under Lock Screen, select Smart Lock and then enable any features you want to use.
