Kominfo Asks Cellular Operators To Maintain Internet Quality During Distance Learning Programs

JAKARTA - Today's government has inaugurated to provide assistance to students, teachers, students and lecturers throughout Indonesia in the form of free internet quota. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) also plays a direct role in this matter.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, who would confirm how operators such as Telkomsel, Indosat Ooreedoo, XL Axiata, 3 (Tri) and Smartfren can be responsible for the internet network for this Distance Learning (PJJ) program.

"Kominfo ensures that operators can maintain the quality of service for their network. Therefore, every cellular operator that takes part in this program pays close attention to the availability of infrastructure in their respective places," said Johnny, in a webinar, Friday, September 25.

In addition, Johnny and his party are currently using direct internet access to satellite so that the quality of internet in Indonesia is well maintained.

"Well that is usually done for a limited radius, we give 20 to 100 meters at each point, and this time for the first time we have a super Wi-Fi trial. The range can be up to 500 meters with a capacity of 40 to 30GB. That's quite large. to support the learning and teaching process as well, "he explained.

Johnny said that he and Kominfo would also add spectrum and radio frequency, through farming and refarming so that the learning and teaching process at home could run well during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Not only that, Johnny also realized that at every point in the public domain, be it village administrations, health centers or educational services throughout Indonesia, currently there is no 4G internet service.

"So we have prepared a road map for deploying a 4G network in all 12,548 villages or sub-districts that currently do not have a 4G network, at the latest it will be available in 2022," said Johnny.

For 2021, the government has provided fiscal intervention for the first phase of development, as many as 4,200 points or villages for the availability of a 4G internet network.

Not to be missed, Johnny said that operators also contributed in generating signals in this program. "I am very grateful to the cellular operators who work together well to produce an adequate internet network."
