JAKARTA - The owner of Facebook, Meta PlatformInc., announced on Tuesday, March 15 that it will employ 2,000 people over the next five years in Spain. Meta has made its development plans for the region.

"The 2,000 employees will mostly staff the company's first 'lab', a flexible base for remote workers, in Madrid," Javier Olivan, vice president of products and infrastructure at Cross-Meta, told media after meeting Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in Madrid.

Spain will be an important hub for Meta's development in Europe as its two submarine cables connecting the region with America and Africa will land in Spain and the company plans to build a data center at Castile-La Mancha in central Spain.

Olivan also said his company will set up the Metaverse Innovation Hub in collaboration with local telecommunications company Telefonica.

This will give Meta room to continue its digital expansion throughout Europe as well as Africa.
