JAKARTA - Instagram has introduced a new feature, namely an enhanced tag feature that allows you to show more details about someone who helped or became a collaborator and gave credit for their work.
This enhanced tag will indicate the role of other collaborators such as photographers, artists, writers, or anyone who is involved in working on a content but not always directly. “Proper creative credit and recognition is the starting point for discovery, new opportunities, and economic empowerment,” Instagram said in a blog post.
In announcing the updated tagging options, the company acknowledged that a lot of collaborator work went into creating the content users see in the app.
“For many black and underrepresented creators, giving credit is an entry point to building a sustainable career as a creator, while fighting cultural appropriation and ensuring the world knows who is driving culture,” he continued.
Instagram says that the feature will be used to highlight behind-the-scenes creators who sometimes go unnoticed or unrecognized, such as makeup artists or songwriters. Tags are a more formal way of displaying what some content creators have become accustomed to.
To use the new enhanced tag, you need to tap "Tag People" when creating a post. From there, you'll need to tap on "Add Tag" and search for and select your contributors. Then you can select “Show Profile Category” to display the creator category, such as “stylist” or “photographer”
Instagram users have come up with several DIY methods to credit the people involved in content creation. Some users mention roles in post captions and tag collaborators there, while others have tagged a series of direct tags on posted photos or videos.
