JAKARTA - Microsoft is providing an update on its actions against Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Through his official blog, Microsoft President, Brad Smith will suspend all sales of new Microsoft products and services in Russia.
"Additionally, we are closely coordinating and working closely with the governments of the United States, European Union and United Kingdom, and we are shutting down many aspects of our business in Russia in accordance with government sanctions decisions," Smith said in his blog Friday, March 4.
In a previous Microsoft blog posted on February 28, it said that the software giant would take steps that cover four areas, namely: protecting Ukraine from cyberattacks, protecting against state-sponsored disinformation campaigns, supporting humanitarian aid, and protecting our employees.
"The single area of our work that has the most impact almost certainly is the protection of Ukrainian cybersecurity. We continue to work proactively to help cybersecurity officials in Ukraine defend against Russian attacks, including the most recent cyberattack against a major Ukrainian broadcaster," continued Smith.
Since the war began, Microsoft has acted against Russia, destructive or disruptive actions against more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial sector organizations.
Microsoft has also acted against cyberattacks targeting several additional civilian sites. Apart from that, this software company continues to mobilize its resources to help people in Ukraine.
The Microsoft Philanthropies and UN Affairs teams work closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and several UN agencies to assist refugees by providing technological and financial support to key NGOs.
"As a company, we are committed to the safety of our employees in Ukraine and we are in constant touch with them to offer support in various forms, including those who need to flee for their lives or safety," the Microsoft president said.
