JAKARTA – McDonald's, which is the largest fast-food company in the US, is reportedly planning to dive into the metaverse. McD has applied for offering goods and beverage products in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT).

Reporting from U.Today, the Chicago-based company is preparing to operate a virtual restaurant that will also feature virtual goods. McDonald's plans to host a variety of entertainment events, including concerts, in the metaverse.

Previously, the world's richest man, Elon Musk, had pushed the fast-food giant to accept the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. Even Musk had promised to eat McDonald's Happy Meal on television shows. But the fast-food chain just laughed at the offer, asking Tesla to add support for a fake cryptocurrency called Grimacecoin in return.

McDonald's has also started trolling community-based cryptos after the crypto market crash that occurred in January. In addition to McD, last month retail giant Walmart also filed several trademark applications related to Metaverse, which intends to offer a selection of virtual goods.

Nike and Adidas, the big sportswear companies, are also following one of the hottest tech trends. Clothing and accessories retailer Gap has also launched its own NFT collection.

Meanwhile, entertainment giant Disney is recruiting NFT experts. The forays of big corporate names into the metaverse have rekindled the crypto community's trust in the metaverse and NFT.
