JAKARTA – Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc. has temporarily suspended new users from joining social media tracking tool CrowdTangle due to staff constraints.

Meta, which disbanded the CrowdTangle team last year, is under pressure to bring greater transparency to its platform. This comes after CrowdTangle founder and CEO, Brandon Silverman, left Facebook last year.

This tool is used by organizations and individuals to follow, analyze, and report on publicly available content on Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit.

CrowdTangle recently moved to a new data and transparency team, working through the transition and staff deliberations, a Meta spokesperson said.

"We are stopping people's ability to join CrowdTangle while we work through some staffing constraints," the spokesperson added.

New users can still be added to existing corporate accounts on the tracking tool, the spokesperson said. However, how the tracking tool will perform is still unclear after being suspended by Meta.
