JAKARTA - Android users will soon be able to transfer their WhatsApp chat history to iOS. Mark Zuckerberg's app now seems to make Android devices do the same thing with iOS.

First reported by WABetaInfo, this feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta version 22.2.74 for iOS, and seems to corroborate WABetaInfo's earlier discovery in the beta version 2.21.20.11 for Android.

Both updates lead to a feature that lets users transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iOS using the Move to iOS app. However, users must have the latest operating system, Android 12.

Furthermore, version 2.21.20.11 of WhatsApp for Android also has new data showing that the app is working to implement this feature in both versions.

Because the change log shows that the Move to iOS app will be required to complete the migration from one operating system to another. WABetaInfo also shared some screenshots showing what the feature looks like.

Judging from the image below, it seems that WhatsApp will ask for permission before starting the transfer process, and will then instruct the user to keep the app open and the phone should not be locked while migrating chat history.

Previously reported by The Verge, Monday, January 24, WhatsApp first allowed users to migrate their chat history from iOS to Android phones back in September, and later expanded the feature to support chat transfers from iOS to Google Pixels and other Android 12 devices.

Letting users transfer their chats from Android to iOS would close the gap between devices, but it's still unclear which devices will support the feature, and when it will start rolling out.

Apart from the chat history transfer feature, another feature that users can't wait to take full advantage of is the multi-device support, which Telegram has had for years. Unfortunately, WhatsApp cannot implement it in the same way.

Currently, users can take advantage of multi-device support as a public beta feature on WhatsApp for Desktop, Web, and Portal. Going forward, the app plans to build a version 2.0 that brings more functionality to multi-device support, such as a standalone iPad app.
