Apple Launches Tracker Detect On Android To Track AirTags

JAKARTA – Apple Inc said on Monday, December 13 that it has launched a tracker app on Android to help users scan nearby AirTags or other similar item trackers that someone might have stolen or carried with them, without their knowledge. This application is made to increase the privacy of the users.

AirTags are small devices that can be attached to items such as keys or wallets that can be found when they are lost. AirTag is billed as an easy way to track someone's belongings. This AirTag can be attached to your keys, wallet or purse.

For example, an AirTag is inserted into a backpack or wallet, then this tool will then be a marker of the existence of the item in a location. That way, the items are tracked through the Find My app, which can also find Apple devices and connect with friends and family.

Apple says the Tracker Detect app, released on the Google Play Store, will allow users to scan to find their AirTags or compatible device if they believe someone else is using it and is able to track their location.

Apple says the Tracker Detect app allows Android users to proactively scan for item trackers that no longer have their owners. If the tracker has been moving with the user for more than 10 minutes, the app will help find it by playing a sound and providing guidance on how to turn it off.

"We're raising privacy standards for our users and industry, and hope others will follow suit," an Apple spokesperson said in a statement.
