JAKARTA - Observer and Chairman of the Indonesian Cyber Research Institute CISSRec, Pratama Persadha, assessed that the cooperation between the government and social media platforms in combating spam comments promoting online gambling still needs to be strengthened.
In terms of regulation, Pratama assessed that the Ministry of Communication and Digital has started to move by issuing rules and encouraging platforms to be more strict in moderating online gambling content. However, there is still inequality in the field.
"Regulations are in place, Komdigi has encouraged. But if the platform does not run seriously, what else can you do. They are the ones who have full control over their moderation system," Pratama said in his official statement quoted on Friday, July 3.
Pratama assessed that the strengthening that needed to be considered was especially in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect spam comments, bot accounts, and patterns of unnatural activities automatically.
According to him, the platform has the ability to recognize thousands of identical comments sent in a short time, detect accounts that are created en masse, to identify networks of accounts that coordinate with each other. So the process of deleting comments and disabling accounts can be done faster.
"Steps that platforms can take include strengthening automatic detection of repeated link patterns, speeding up the process of removing judol accounts, and providing more responsive reporting channels," continued Pratama.
Meanwhile, from the side of account owners, whether it's a celebrity, influencer, brand, or large public account, they can block spam accounts one by one, or set keywords such as "judol", "slot", "maxwin", "gacor", "scatter" so that comments containing the word are automatically hidden.
"Big account owners actually have control. Keyword filters are provided by the platform, just use them. If there are still spam judol in the comment column, it means that the feature has not been used optimally," added Pratama.
On the other hand, the community also has a very important role, namely by not opening links shared in the comment column, not responding to accounts that promote gambling, and immediately using the reporting feature if they find such activities.
"The sooner an account is reported, the greater the platform's chance to take action before the promotion is spread more widely," he said.
