JAKARTA - Facebook's parent companies, Meta Inc. and Microsoft Corp., have teamed up to integrate Workplace Meta's enterprise social networking software with Microsoft Teams.

This integration gives customers access to Workplace content within the Teams app. Likewise, users can view Teams video meetings in the Workplace app.

The partnership between Meta and Microsoft brings together two rival rivals in the enterprise communications software market. Workplace and Teams, however, don't have a complete overlap.

While Workplace focuses on broad connections across the company, Teams focuses on instant communication between workers and their immediate colleagues.

“The way our customers end up using them is that they use complementary features, not competitor features. Some customers are just a Workplace store, and some customers are just a Teams store. It's really for customers who use both", said Head of Meta Workplace, Ujjwal Singh, as quoted by CNBC International, Thursday, November 11.

Through the embedded tabs in Teams, users can access Workplace content, including compact versions of the Workplace newsfeed, without having to switch between apps. They can also react to and comment on Workplace posts in Teams.

Starting next year, companies will be able to stream Teams meetings to Workplace groups. This way, users will be able to watch meetings and events in any of the apps or view their recordings later on Workplace.

Previously, Meta and Microsoft had combined their enterprise products and productivity in other areas. Like Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are already available on Workplace, as are SharePoint and OneDrive. The workplace is also integrated into Azure Active Directory.

Additionally, Teams will be available on Meta Portal products in December. Users can also use the device for Teams video calls. Unfortunately, the enterprise social networking software Yammer, which competes more directly with the Meta Workplace service, is not embedded in this collaboration.
