JAKARTA - Soon the government's plan to turn off analog television (TV) and switch to digital TV or Analog-Switch-Off (ASO) will begin soon, and be completed by November 2, 2022 at the latest.

According to Ministerial Regulation No. 11/2021 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information No. 6/2021 concerning Broadcasting, the first stage of cessation of Analog TV broadcasts is carried out on 30 April 2022, the second stage is 25 August 2022, and the third or final stage is 2 November 2022.

A year before the full implementation of digital TV migration, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) together with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) launched the One Year Countdown Ahead of Analog Switch Off (ASO).

"Exactly November 2, 2021, coincides one year before the discontinuation of analog TV broadcasts nationally. Therefore, we invite the people of West Java to immediately switch or migrate from analog TV devices to digital TV," said the Special Staff of the Minister of Communication and Information for Information and Public Communication, Rosarita Niken Widiastuti recently.

Furthermore, Niken stated that the government's gradual transition to Digital TV was carried out in accordance with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standards.

"The phasing design was prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics taking into account the reference standards set by ITU, for example geographical conditions, area size, radio frequency limitations and digital broadcast technology capabilities," said Niken.

Niken emphasized that the government hopes that the shift to Digital TV will bring progress and provide quality broadcasts.

“People don't have to pay, they don't need to subscribe or buy credit to watch. With digital TV broadcasts, the picture will be cleaner, the sound clearer, the technology advanced," Niken explained.

Therefore, Niken invites the public to immediately switch to digital devices so they can enjoy Digital TV broadcasts. "For this reason, the government invites the Indonesian people, especially West Java residents to immediately switch or migrate from analog TV sets to digital TV," said Niken.

Meanwhile, for people who want to switch to digital TV, they are required to use a Set Top Box (STB), which is a tool to help analog TV capture digital TV broadcast signals.

Currently, STB has been widely sold, both offline and online. Even so, people need to be careful because there are many STBs that are of poor quality or fake. It is recommended to use one of the 13 STBs that have been certified by the Ministry of Communication and Information, the following is a list:
