JAKARTA - The Grand Committee of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PB PON) launched an official song and video entitled Torang Bisa as an embellishment for the implementation of the national sports event which will be held in Papua on October 2-15.

"This song carries a message of enthusiasm for the implementation of the PON, which was held for the first time in Papua. In it there is the spirit of the Land of Papua to the participants who will compete, as well as welcome for athletes from all over the archipelago," said Head of Division II PB PON XX Papua, Roy Letlora at a press conference in Jakarta, Saturday, quoted from ANTARA.

Before it was officially launched in Jakarta, the song, sung by Vien Mangku and Qibah Mansawan, had already been introduced in Papua as a form of socialization to the local community.

On this occasion, PB PON Papua also explained the process of creating a song which means "We Can" through long stages.

Before officially choosing this song, PB PON Papua started by opening a theme song contest in March 2021, which was attended by 24 contestants from inside and outside Papua.

In the process, there were 15 contestants who finally submitted their songs for the judging stage. After going through a lengthy jury conducted by art workers from Papua, finally the song by Hebat Fatahilah entitled "Torang Bisa" was chosen as the winner.

"The meaning is very deep, every lyric describes the spirit of the Land of Papua. Its location which is in the easternmost part, is the area that welcomes the sunrise the first time. From there it means that the spirit will never run out. Through this song, we want Papua to be better known, " said the Acting Coordinator of Marketing for PB PON Papua, Karsudi, on the same occasion.

The lyrics also tell of four things that are reflected in the spirit of the athletes in Papua, namely maintaining national unity, instilling a spirit of sportsmanship, uniting differences, and uniting each other to become champions.

In addition, "Torang Bisa" is also an expression of the issue of equality which is the concern of all Indonesian people.

"We feel that we are a part, so that Papua can rise from being left behind. We want all to be equal and free from the notion of unequal prosperity. That is all described in this theme song," said Roy Letlora.
