JAKARTA - Aston Villa has signed England striker Danny Ings from Southampton for a fee of £25 million (around IDR 498 billion).

Villa tied the player to a three-year contract until 2024.

The 29-year-old forward is Villa's fourth signing of the summer after Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young.

Ings has scored 46 goals in 100 appearances for Southampton after joining from Liverpool in 2018.

"Danny is an outstanding Premier League footballer who has scored goals wherever he has played", said Villa coach Dean Smith.

"He is also a top professional with great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our youth academy players who are now thriving in and around the first team".

Ings' contract with Southampton is due to expire next year and he has turned down offers of a four-year contract extension, which would make him the highest-paid player at the English club.

However, he refused the contract because he wanted to test his skills in the highest competition.

Ings arrives at Villa Park as midfielder Jack Grealish is closing in on a move to Manchester City in a deal that could reach up to £100 million for an England player.
