Goodbye To AC Milan, Donnarumma: A Choice That Is Not Easy, Can't Be Translated With Words

JAKARTA - Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on Tuesday night bid farewell to AC Milan, after his contract expired at the end of last month and it was confirmed that he would leave the Rossonerri.

Various European media reported that the 22-year-old goalkeeper had already agreed on a contract with Paris Saint-Germain and was just waiting for an official announcement from the wealthy French club.

Donnarumma said his goodbyes through an upload on his personal social media such as Instagram (@gigiodonna99) and Twitter (@gigiodonna1).

"Some choices are difficult, but they are part of growing a person," Donnarumma wrote in the post which also included a video collage of his Milan career.

"...Now it's time to say goodbye, a choice that is not easy, and certainly, a post is not enough to explain it, maybe even inexplicable because the deepest feelings can hardly be translated into words."

"...What I can say is that sometimes it's right to choose change, to face different challenges, to grow, to complete oneself."

"...I wish Milan all success with all my heart, for all the care that adorns me with these colors, feelings that distance and time cannot erase," wrote Donnarumma.

Donnarumma was bought by Milan from ASD Club Napoli's academy in 2013 and spent two years playing for the Rossoneri youth group before making his Serie A debut as a 16-year-old in October 2015.

A year later he was immediately able to lock the position as the main goalkeeper of Milan which was followed by a contract extension drama in 2017, before finally agreeing on a new contract until 2021.

With Milan, Donnarumma has only won one trophy, namely the Italian Super Cup in 2016, but his great talent makes him believed to be the successor to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national team.

Donnarumma just helped Italy win Euro 2020 through his brilliant performance in the penalty shootout in the final by thwarting two executions of the English executioner.

Appearances in the final confirmed Donnarumma as Euro 2020 Player of the Year.

Donnarumma's last contract at Milan had a salary of 6 million euros per year and European media reports suggested that his move to PSG cost him double.
