JAKARTA - Seven-time world champion Marc Marquez refuses to discuss the possibility of winning the 2026 MotoGP world championship before thinking about improvements in several aspects of the Ducati bike he rides.

The Spanish rider hinted that efforts to improve the performance of his bike will be applied in the French MotoGP at the Bugatti Circuit this weekend. According to him, this is more important now than talking about the chance of winning the title.

"To be honest, first of all, before thinking about the title, we need to improve some things," said the rider who has the status of defending champion, quoted from Crash.

The 33-year-old racer entered the fifth series of the season calendar at Le Mans by occupying fifth place in the standings. He is still 44 points behind Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) who is at the top of the standings.

In the latest race in Jerez, Spain, he failed to score points due to an accident and could not continue the race. The result extended his record of never finishing on the podium in the four series that have been held this season.

However, he has recorded two victories in the Sprint Race. The first victory was achieved in the Brazilian MotoGP, while the second victory was obtained in Jerez even though he failed to get the maximum result in the main race.

"So, right now I am showing that in some moments I have speed, in some sessions at the end of the race weekend I perform well. However, I don't have consistency yet," said Marquez.

Marquez's performance at the start of this season is very different from his journey last season. At that time, he performed consistently since the start of the season and locked in the title at the Japanese MotoGP when the competition still had five series left.

The racer nicknamed The Baby Alien is hunting for the eighth MotoGP world championship title this season. If successful, he will be on par with Giacomo Agostini as the most successful rider in the history of the competition with a collection of eight titles.
