JAKARTA - The Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball) award, which was jointly organized by France Football and UEFA Magazines, is one of the most prestigious individual awards in the world of football.
Starting in 1956, this award was decided by journalists to choose the best European player the previous year.
In 1995, the award was expanded covering all the players playing in Europe. Finally in 2007 it was expanded again to all players around the world.
During the six years between 2010-2015, this award was awarded with FIFA, before the partnership ended. FIFA then returned to their separate annual awards.
The Ballon d'Or version currently awards achievements during a football season and not a calendar year, with the vote being voted by an international jury of journalists (one per country).
