England Appears Disappointing, Thomas Tuchel: Already On The Right Track

JAKARTA - England appeared disappointing and had to work hard to beat Andorra 2-0 in the 2025 World Cup qualifying match at Villa Park Stadium, Saturday, September 6, 2025 evening WIB. However, manager Thomas Tuchel was not disappointed because England was already on the right track.

England was barren and needed Christian Garcia's own goal to overcome the deadlock. Furthermore midfielder Declan Rice solidified England's lead.

The victory made England maintain a perfect record. They managed to pocket point 12 so they maintained their position at the top of Group K.

Despite getting the perfect points, the Three Lions' performance is far from perfect. Captain Harry Kane did not move to face Andorra's defensive strategy which even put nine players in his own area. Likewise, Marcus Rashford and Noni Madueke had difficulty penetrating the opponent's defense.

Only Tuchel was not disappointed that England's performance was not impressive at all. According to the former Bayern Munich coach, the team is on the right track.

"I'm completely sure that we're on the right track," Tuchel said in response to Jordan Pickford et al's performance.

We showed good performance and we deserved that result. Only we should have won with more goals. We think positively than negative about this match," he said again.

Andorra Proud

Meanwhile, coach Andorra Koldo Alvarez was proud that the team had only conceded a few goals. However, he highlighted Rice's goal which shouldn't have happened.

"About the first goal, every player can make a mistake. But the second goal shouldn't have happened. Moreover, we have prepared ourselves by training hard for the last few weeks," said Alvarez.

"Whatever I still congratulate the players because I think we played very well. We know this is a difficult match. Even though we have given 100% of our abilities, it is still not enough," he said again.

Victory over Andorra at least boosted England's confidence to face Serbia's strong opponent in the next match. Serbia, who are in second place, successfully beat Latvia 1-0.
