JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen has announced the signing of Lucas Vazquez on a two-year contract.
The 34-year-old has a free transfer status after leaving Real Madrid this summer. The winger - who has played as a right-back for more than a few seasons - won a total of 23 trophies in a decade in Bernabeu, made him one of the La Liga club's captains.
Vazquez's contract at Leverkusen will be in effect until June 30, 2027. In the Bundesliga club statement, he will wear the number 21.

"We have recruited a very experienced player, who has won everything with Real Madrid over the past 10 years."
"He has great techniques, tacticians, a provider of passers, and strategists. Lucas will have a big influence on our game," said Leverkusen's Managing Director, Simon happened.
Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga 2024/2025 - after winning the league the previous season under coach Xabi Alonso - who is now coaching Real Madrid.
They lost 1-2 in the opening match of the 2025/2026 season to Hoffenheim on Saturday, August 23, 2025, under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.
Vazquez graduated from Real Madrid's youth academy before being loaned to Espanyol for one season, then returned to Los Blancos' first team in 2015.
He was part of a squad that won three Champions Leagues in a row in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and later became a useful choice at full-backs, often replacing Dani Carvajal, who also played at Leverkusen for a season in 2012/2013.
