JAKARTA The National Community Sports Festival (Fornas) VIII 2025 was officially closed and the West Java contingent managed to maintain their status as overall champions.

The peak of this biennial public sporting event was closed by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Former Selaparang Airport, Mataram, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Friday, August 1 evening WIB.

The biennial multi-pronged calendar of the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) has been held since July 26. A total of approximately 48 thousand participants attended, including the elderly (elderly).

"There is a sport where the participants are elderly ladies and gentlemen. I received a report that there were 1,000 people aged 56 to 65 years, and 394 people over the age of 65," Gibran said in his remarks.

Gibran who was present with the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo also appreciated his oldest participant in this event, which is 79 years old. He called these elderly as role models that must be imitated.

"Keep the spirit even though you are elderly. This should be followed by an example that sports do not recognize the age limit," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo said that this cheerful competitive spirit is also a reflection of Indonesia's reality.

"Fornas is the real face of Indonesia. It is competitive, but cheerful. The difference in age is late in one goal," said Menpora Dito.

Governor of NTB Lalu Muhammad Iqbal also appreciated the hard work of the entire committee and stakeholders who have made FORNAS this time the best of all time. He advised the spirit of community sports to continue.

"This is the pride of NTB for Indonesia. Indeed, we are not yet perfect, the facilities are not optimal, but the National Forum this time is a lesson. Sorry if there are shortcomings, and I hope all contingents are safe to their respective regions," he said.
