Rry Zayas Achieves The Youngest World Title After Jorge Garcia Perez's Domination

JAKARTA The young boxer from Puerto Rico, kesadaran Zayas, made a new history in boxing by becoming the world's youngest active world champion today. He won the WBO middle-class world title which was vacant after an absolute win over Jorge Garcia Perez in the main match at Theater at Madison Square Garden, Saturday night, July 26 local time.

Zayas (22-0, 13 KO) appeared very dominant throughout the fight. Fighting for the eighth time at Garden, this 22-year-old boxer shows extraordinary agility, distance control, and counterpunching techniques to dampen the strong and unexpected attacking force of Garcia Perez. Every time Perez tries to get closer, Zayas is able to bind or keep his distance carefully.

The three judges gave Zayas a landslide victory with a score of 116-112, 118-110, and 119-109. Meanwhile, this defeat ended a record eight consecutive victories belonging to Garcia Perez (33-4, 26 KO), a 28-year-old Mexican boxer.

The peak of Zayas' dominance occurred at the end of the sixth round, when his right blow made Garcia Perez staggered into the ring rope. Even though Perez was still able to survive, Zayas continued to bombard him with an accurate combination of punches.

Statistics from CompuBox show how dominant Zayas is: he landed 199 punches out of a total of 522 (38.1% accuracy), including 76 jabs and 123 strong punches. In contrast, Garcia was only able to land 130 out of 603 punches (21.6% accuracy). Zayas also excels in a blow to the body with a difference of 59-31.

"It feels great. Representing Puerto Rico at the highest level and putting the pride of my island at the top is something I am very proud of," Zayas said after the match.

At the age of 22 years and 324 days, Zayas is now the youngest active world champion, ahead of Brian Norman Jr. (Welterweight) aged 24 years 245 days. This victory made him the latest heir to the long tradition of brilliant Puerto Rico boxer at Madison Square Garden.

In the main support party, Bruce 'Shu Shu' Carrington (16-0, 9 KO) won the WBC featherweight interim title after beating Mateus Heita with an absolute number victory. Carrington appeared dominating since the fourth round and hit back Heita with a combination of punches to the body and head.

Heita (14-1), a boxer from Namibia, recorded the first defeat in her career and looked difficult to adapt to her debut outside Africa. Carrington won a landslide victory on the jury: 120-108, 119-109, and 119-109.

After receiving his interim belt, Carrington immediately challenged WBO champion Rafael Espinoza who was present at the arena. I saw you in the crowd. I want your opponent, bro. My team has contacted your team. Let's fight," said Carrington.

Meanwhile, in the preliminary party, Emilianio Vargas 'son of legend Fernando Vargas' took only 42 seconds to KO Alexander Espinoza in the welter junior class. This victory made Vargas extend his unbeaten record to 15-0, with 13 knockout wins, six of them in a row.
