Leo Rolly Carnando Absent In The 2025 Sudirman Cup

JAKARTA Badminton player who specializes in doubles, Leo Rolly Carnando, is certainly unable to defend Indonesia in the 2025 Sudirman Cup mixed team event which will take place this weekend.

Head of the PBSI Development and Achievement Division, Eng Hian, confirmed Leo's absence from the media through an official statement on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Eng Hian explained that Leo was injured in the left knee ligament during the 2025 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) semifinals.

"After returning to Jakarta, the medical team immediately carried out a series of examinations. The final results stated that Leo needed more time to recover," he said.

This problem made PBSI decide not to dispatch Leo, who is currently playing with Bagas Maulana in the men's doubles number.

"We have decided not to replace Leo with other players because the men's doubles already have two plus one pairs, namely Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and Bagas Maulana," said Eng Hian.

Indonesia has previously been confirmed not to be strengthened by the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who was affected by vertigo and needed time off.

However, PBSI decided to appoint Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo as Gregoria's replacement. Ester will be accompanied by Putri Kusuma Wardani in the women's singles.

The 2025 Sudirman Cup will be held from April 27 to May 4, 2025 at the Fenghuang Gimnasium, Xiamen, China. A total of 16 countries are participants.

Indonesia will start the journey from Group D with Denmark, India and England. The two best teams from the group stage will continue their journey to the quarter-finals.
