PSSI Reveals Reasons For Appointing Jordi Cruyff As Technical Advisor

Jordy Cruyff has many tasks once appointed as Technical Advisor for the Indonesian National Team (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - PSSI through the General Chair (Ketum), Erick Thohir, revealed the reason for choosing Jordi Cruyff to become the Technical Advisor of the Indonesian National Team. Jordi's track record, which has served with Barcelona, is one of the reasons.

Jordi was previously known to have served as Technical Advisor and Director of Sports at Barcelona. This point made him choose to fill the current position at the Garuda Squad.

"The reason for taking Jordi Cruyff, if we look at him, he also has experience with Barcelona, who is also one of the clubs with a philosophy of playing and being consistent to this day," said Erick Thohir in his statement on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

Before officially collaborating with Jordi Cruyff, it turned out that Erick Thohir said that PSSI almost signed a contract with another figure. However, the choice fell on Jordi.

"It seems that it has also been conveyed with PSSI Deputy and BTN, we almost signed (with other candidates) from Spain."

"However, at that time there were doubts. In the formation of the Indonesian National Team, from the Technical Advisor and Technical Director, it will be a new problem because each figure shows his ego," he said.

In addition to Jordi Cruyff's background, who had direct contact with Barcelona, another reason he was chosen was the seriousness shown during an interview with Erick Thohir.

"When Jordi interviewed me, he was very serious. When I interviewed, I also thought whether it could make the same commitment as he hoped," said Erick Thohir.

Even though he has become part of the Indonesian national team, Erick Thohir has not been able to explain what steps Jordi Cruyff has taken against Philanesia (Indonesian Football Philosophy), which has been a guideline for developing football in Indonesia.

However, with that status, Jordi will supervise and provide advice to related parties.

"Later, when we come here, we will find him with a coach in Indonesia. He must be part of PSSI and BTN for supervision and approval of the entire framework of the Indonesian National Team."

"Not only correcting what already exists, including Philanesia. We will give him the opportunity to review," said the chairman of PSSI.
