JAKARTA The allegation of buzzers supporting the former coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, was proven in the research results of Drone Emprit.
Football Institute founder, Budi Setiawan, said that the results of the social media analysis research showed that there was an organized bot account voicing support for the South Korean coach.
"From this research, it proves that the hashtag #STYstay uses buzzers. The results of this research are almost the same as those of the Football Institute research which states that there are other interests outside of football," Budi said in a discussion on the presentation of Drone Emprit's research results on the Analysis of Football Conversations on Social Media, in Jakarta on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Budi revealed that there was a certain motive behind the hectic tweet of support for STY who was fired from the Indonesian national team coach seat on January 6, 2025.
"In fact, it has been explained, this is a matter of consideration (dismissal), but it is still crowded. It should be suspected that someone has created (on social media)," said Budi.
According to Budi, the football climate in Indonesia is no longer healthy, starting from the debate over STY's dismissal to the emergence of buzzers.
So far, he said, many supporters of the Indonesian national team have been carried away by the current of the image built by the 54-year-old coach.

"This is the effect of the imaging process that has been built for years. Even though STY is no longer there, it is still crowded. Whether this is created naturally or engineering, what is clear is that there has been a buzzer," he said.
Budi assessed that PSSI's move to terminate STY's contract was correct. He also hopes that the Indonesian football climate will soon be healthy regardless of various technical considerations regarding STY's leadership in the Garuda squad.
"PSSI took appropriate and bold or unpopular policies to terminate STY's contract halfway through."
"Despite various considerations, this is expected to restore the true climate of football supporters," he said.
Drone Emprit Analysis
Meanwhile, Drone Emprit Social Media Analyst, Slovenia Istiani, said talks on social media responding to STY's dismissal were divided into three categories, namely categories with pro Shin Tae-yong's narrative, Shin Tae-yong's counter, and media narratives and information accounts.
He explained that the STY issue was reported in 6,090 articles, 18,156 mentions, and discussed on social media as many as 14,478 mentions.
Positive sentiment towards STY on social media and online media was driven by recognition of the significant changes that the coach brought to the performance of the Indonesian national team, STY's dedication to building a team, STY's achievements such as bringing Indonesia to the 2020 AFF Cup final, and improving performance in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Slovenia highlighted that the hashtag #STYstay is quite massive on Twitter social media. Apart from being tweeted by organic and public accounts, this hashtag was also tweeted by a bot account.
Drone Emprit suspects that this bot account is organized with the same narrative.
"There are accounts that we have the same pattern of. Not only on Twitter, but this organized hashtag is widely found on Instagram."
"This account does not talk about context, but rather to amplification of tweets or uploads, he retweets or comments to increase engagement," Slovenia said.
He explained that usually this account does not specifically discuss topics related to football, but also tweets when there is news regarding STY being fired.
"They do not convey contextual information such as large accounts or influencer accounts," he said.
Meanwhile, the counter-STY category narrates Indonesia's failure to reach the semifinals in the 2024 AFF Cup, which is considered to lead to the dismissal of the coach.
Then criticism of STY's lack of communication capabilities with players, STY's strategy that is deemed ineffective and not in line with the needs of the Garuda Squad, as well as tensions between supporters and opponents regarding STY's leadership that are considered to take advantage of buzzers.
"For the hashtag #STYout, it comes from public accounts in general who do see STY's performance as not satisfactory enough."
"So, they agreed with Erick Thohir's opinion, then they amplified Erick Thohir's statement that there was a communication problem between STY and the players, like that," said Slovenia.
