Coaching Chair Ange Postecoglou Starts To Be Unsafe At Tottenham

JAKARTA - Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has admitted that his job was unsafe after his army lost 13th in the 2024/2025 Premier League against Leicester City on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Spurs took the lead through Richarlison (33') in the first half. However, Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss both scored in five minutes after the second half started (46' and 50').

Ruud van Nistelrooy's side, who have lost their previous seven league games, maintained a 2-1 lead until the end of the game to get three important points.

An additional three points left them out of the relegation zone and added pressure to Postecoglou, who saw his team's winless record in the Premier League increased to seven games without a win (six defeats and one draw).

"Who knows (his career in Spurs)? Most would say no. When you become a football club manager, you can feel vulnerable and isolated, I don't feel that."

"The players gave everything. I focused on that and tried to support the players," said Postecoglou.

The former Celtic boss added that the defeat hurt even though he did not intend to show critics that his method worked.

"Yes, it hurts. It hurts. The players give everything back. We'll see a lot of things, but in terms of effort, I can't ask for more from this group."

"Everything didn't go the way we wanted. It didn't cross my mind to try to convince people."

"I've been in this world for a long time so people will judge where we are at this time, which is not good enough."

The atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium worsened even before the final whistle sounded. Fans in some parts unfurled banners calling for changes related to managers and at the council level.

Protests against Spurs owner Daniel Levy have grown louder in recent weeks as the team's performance slumped despite Postecoglou saying he was considering uniting the club as part of his duties.

"When I take that role, I want to unite the club, with a focus on one thing."

"It didn't work like that. It's understandable that fans are not happy with this situation."

"I don't regularly talk to Levy. We have regular contacts in particular during the January 2025 period."

"The players and staff are united in what we're trying to do. I'm not trying to convince people what we're going to do."

"That's where I got the coverage to say we can believe it," said Postecoglou.

Spurs are 15th in the Premier League standings with 24 points from 23 matches. They are only eight points clear of the relegation zone.

They will play against Elfsborg in the Europa League on January 31, 2025 before traveling to Brentford on February 2, 2025.
