Malaysia Open 2025: Gregoria Clashes With Putri KW In The First Round

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung immediately met Putri KW in the first round of the Malaysia Open 2025 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The Indonesian women's singles duo, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Putri Kusuma Wardani, immediately faced each other in the first round of the Malaysia Open 2025.

Gregoria and Putri KW are two women's singles sent by Indonesia to the event. Unfortunately, one of them will certainly be eliminated at the beginning.

The women's singles coach, Imam Tohari, regretted the early meeting between the fellow Indonesian representatives.

"Hopefully the best will be able to win, but unfortunately they have to meet directly in the first round," said Imam in a statement received from PBSI Public Relations.

Gregoria dropped as the fourth seed in the BWF Super 1000 level event, while her colleague Putri KW was present as non-seeded.

This will be the second competitive clash between Gregoria and Putri. Gregoria won their only previous clash in the first round of the Indonesia Open 2024.

Imam hopes that one of the two women's singles can make a good journey at the Axiata Arena later.

"Because there is not much time to go to this Malaysia Open, I focus more on strengthening techniques and strategies for Gregoria and Putri," said Imam.

Malaysia Open 2025 will begin on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, until Sunday, January 12, 2025. Indonesia has sent a total of nine representatives to this event.

The women's singles number has been recorded as having a title drought there for 28 years. The last time Indonesian women's singles triumphed through Susi Susanti in the 1997 edition.
