Arne Slot Affirms Alexander-Arnold Fully Committed To Liverpool

JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Arne Slot said Trent Alexander-Arnold remains fully committed to the club despite interest from Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold's contract at Anfield will expire at the end of this season. Some sources say he is Real Madrid's main defense target following a long-term injury suffered by right-back Dani Carvajal.

Los Blancos are estimated to prefer to wait until next summer to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer.

However, they were close to Liverpool on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, about the possible move for Alexander-Arnold this month.

The Reds quickly rejected the approach, which did not seem to approve of the departure of their vice-captain this month.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, January 3, 2025, ahead of Liverpool's match against Manchester United, Arne Slot refused to discuss the matter.

However, he insisted Alexander-Arnold remained focused on the tasks at Anfield.

"If other people talk about them it will make Liverpool players unstable, then we will really have a problem."

"If you play at one of the biggest clubs in the world, everyone for 12 months talks about you, sometimes in relation to other clubs," said Arne Slot.

"It happens so often to our players. If it makes them unstable, then we really will have a problem, not only now, but also in the last six months."

"I think there's been some talk about our players in the last six months. However, I don't think that makes them unstable at all," said the Dutch manager.

Arne Slot further also rejected talks about the possibility of Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool in January 2025.

"I can tell you that he will play on Sunday, January 5, 2025. I think everyone will see how great the first half of the season is."

"How much he is here, how much he wants to win here. He plays an incredible game against West Ham."

"I think we all saw the bait he gave Mo (Salah) for the second goal. I saw him at the training ground every day, working hard. So, he is fully committed to us," said Arne Slot.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of three Liverpool stars whose contract expires this season. Two other names are Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk.

Until now, it is not clear what the future of the three pillars of the Reds will be.
