Carlos Alcaraz Reaches 2024 China Open Final

JAKARTA Petenis mantan nomor tiga dunia asal Spanyol, Carlos Alcaraz, mengalahkan Daniil Medvedev untuk mendapat tiket ke final China Open 2024.

Medvedev, who last year was runner-up in the tournament, fell with a score of 5-7 and 3-6 in a match of 88 minutes on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, evening WIB.

"I think we both started pretty well," Alcaraz said after extending his win to eight games in a row at the tour level, quoted on the ATP website.

The first set of matches between the two players was fierce. In total, they created five service breaks before Alcaraz dominated the second set.

Medvedev's struggle in the second set was disrupted by his hip problems. This made him have to receive treatment from physiotherapists twice.

Alcaraz then comfortably managed to complete his victory after converting five of the 11 break points he got.

"I played very well. After that, after you take the lead in a set, playing against Daniil more confidently it would be a little easier," said the 21-year-old.

This result makes Alcaraz the third tennis player to reach the five-finals of the tour level this season. He followed in the footsteps of world number one, Jannik Sinner, and Norwegian player Casper Ruud.

In addition, this result further beautifies Alcaraz's record with Medvedev. The owner of the four Grand Slam titles is now ahead of the 6-2 win over the Russian player.

Since falling in the second round of the US Open 2024 against Botic van de Zandschulp, Alcaraz has been unbeaten in singles in the Davis Cup Final Group, Cup Laver, and China Open 2024.

Alcaraz is now chasing his first title at the tour level since Wimbledon in July 2024. In this year's calendar, he also won at ATP Masters 1000 at Indian Wells and Roland Garros.
