JAKARTA Central Java (Central Java) swimming carries the target of bringing home 14 gold medals when participating in the XVII Solo 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas).

Peparnas 2024 will take place on October 6-10, 2024. The status as the host makes Central Java not want to miss a sweet opportunity to come out as the overall champion.

Swimming is also expected to be a source of gold medals to help achieve the target of the host. Central Java will total 51 athletes in swimming (sports).

"Alhamdulillah, currently our preparation for Peparnas XVII has been running at 95 percent. Our target at this event can be to win 14 gold medals," said the coach of Central Java swimming, Didit Permadi, in a statement.

The Central Java swimming team has undergone early training at the Edupark Indani Karanganyar Swimming Pool to make it easier for athletes to adapt. The progress shown by the athletes so far is quite satisfactory.

The weather factor is one of the challenges currently being anticipated by athletes who swim in Central Java. You see, during the preparation period, all athletes must work hard to fight the heat of the sun.

Didit said that they were quite profitable because during this preparation period the Central Java swimming team held a training at the Indani Swimming Pool, the location that will be the Peparnas competition later.

"This allows us to better understand what the venue situation is like. Every athlete definitely needs adaptation. We must be able to recognize the venue, both in terms of time and weather," he said.

Overall, Central Java will deploy as many as 602 personnel. This number consists of 373 athletes and 229 officials. With this number of contingents, the host has ambitions to secure a total of 110 gold.

In the previous edition in Papua in 2021, Central Java won 89 gold, 60 silver, 76 bronze. At that time, Central Java had to settle for third behind the hosts and West Java.

If it is able to achieve the target this year, Central Java will automatically become the most successful contingent in the history of organizing Peparnas because it managed to come out six times as the overall champion.

The last time they got the title was when they occupied the top podium at the 2012 Peparnas XIV event which took place in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province.
