JAKARTA The case involving a well-known Indonesian swimmer, Joe Aditya Wijaya Kurniawan, at the XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024 National Sports Week (PON) is ready to be brought to justice by Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng).
This was conveyed by the Head of the Central Sulawesi Contingent Task Force (Satgas), Dody Triwinarto. He stated that he was ready to take legal steps to process the claims made by DKI Jakarta Province against the athlete.
"This is a concern for all of us. Two days after the opening of the PON, our best athlete in swimming, Joy Aditya Kurniawan, was claimed to be hijacked by Jakarta," said Dody as quoted by Antara.
The swimmer, who represented Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, received two identity cards at once at the 2024 PON. This could happen because he was registered by DKI Jakarta and Central Sulawesi.

Joe was actually still an athlete in Central Sulawesi when he entered the qualifying round for the 2024 PON. However, that status later died on the basis of a decision made by the Board of Judges of the 2024 PON.
This decision made Joe inevitably have to defend DKI Jakarta, the area he previously represented at the Papua PON in 2021. Joe was disappointed with the decision because since 2022 he has been fostered by Central Sulawesi.
Dody said that legal steps to address the situation needed to be taken because this was related to the coaching budget that had to be accounted for.
"I will report this to Bareskrim. I have coordinated with legal advisors, we will fight for this because it is the right," he said.
The above problem made Joe refuse to wear a DKI jacket when he got on the podium for a medal. He was seen wearing a black jacket which became the official attribute of the Indonesian contingent when appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Joe is one of the most successful athletes in the 2024 PON who is full of problems. So far, he has won five gold medals in the 2024 PON.
His latest gold medal came from the 100-meter freestyle after finishing with a time of 50.28 seconds. This time record managed to bring the 23-year-old swimmer to break the national record, which had been held byANGey Fauzi Sidiq (50.49 seconds) since the 2016 West Java PON.
As for the other four gold medals, he got in the men's 50 meters butterfly, the men's 4x200 meter freestyle relay with Putra M. Randa, Nicholas Karel Subagyo, and Samuel Maxson Septionus, then the men's 100 meters butterfly, and finally the men's 200 meters freestyle.
