Jonathan Christie Fails To Hold Hong Kong Open Title, His Own Mistake Is A Problem

Jonatan Christie admits that there are many mistakes in itself as the cause of being eliminated in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Jonathan Christie failed to defend his Hong Kong Open title after this year's edition ran aground in the semifinals.

Jonathan lost to China's singles, Lei Lan Xi, in the rubber games, 14-21, 21-12, and 17-21, at Hong Kong Coliseum, Saturday, September 14, 2024.

At the Hong Kong Open 2023, Jonathan came out as the champion after defeating Japan's singles, Kenta Nishimoto.

Jonathan's defeat in the top four failed to win two consecutive Hong Kong Open titles.

He admits there are several factors that cause defeat. Mistakes themselves are still the main aspect of defeat in addition to good rebuttal from Lei Lan Xi.

"It's not easy, there should have been a few times that could have points for me, but Lei Lan Xi's defense was good. When he was in charge of his ball, he could still reverse it."

"In addition, I also made mistakes at important points. When there was a chance to catch up, but instead threw away points."

"In the third game before the interval, the field conditions were not profitable, but again I was not calm enough, I wanted to rush to turn it off," said Jonathan after the match on the PBSI website.

Jonathan did not want to drag on with regret. He wants to rise at the 2024 China Open which will take place next week.

"It can still be improved. There were 1-2 touch evaluations that could be finalized again for the 2024 China Open."

"There was an opportunity, but I can't maximize it yet. Try again next week," said Jonathan.

Jonathan Christie's failure in the semifinals made the Indonesian men's singles run out. Previously, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting also stopped in the top four after losing to Viktor Axelsen.

Indonesia practically just has to hope for Putri Kusuma Wardani and the men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the final of the Hong Kong Open 2024.
