Hong Kong Open 2024: Jonathan Loses, Indonesian Men's Singles Run Out

Jonathan Christie failed to reach the final of the Hong Kong Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Jonatan Christie failed to advance to the final of the Hong Kong Open 2024. He lost to China's singles, Lei Lan Xi, in the rubber game, 14-21, 21-12, and 17-21, at Hong Kong Coliseum, Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Jonathan vs Lei's fight lasted 69 minutes. At the start of the first set, the fight was fierce.

However, Lei managed to excel in the interval with a score of 11-9. After the break, the draw had occurred 12-12.

Four consecutive points after that made Lei force Jonathan to work hard. However, until the Chinese single touched the game point, Jonathan had difficulty equalizing.

Indonesia's single point was stopped at number 14 and Lei managed to take the first set.

In the second set, Jonathan got up. He was speeding without being able to catch Lei until the interval with an 11-4 advantage.

After the break, Jonathan was able to maintain the advantage until he closed the second set with a 21-12 victory.

However, in the decision set, Jonathan had to face Lei with a different game. He struggled to get out of the pressure so he fell behind during the 8-11 break.

After exchanging places, Jonathan was able to put up a fight. He equalized 14-14.

However, after that Lei was able to get three consecutive points and maintain the advantage until he won the third set 21-17.

Jonathan's defeat made the Indonesian men's singles at the Hong Kong Open 2024 run out. Previously, Anthony Ginting also lost in the semifinals against Viktor Axelsen.

In addition, Jonathan failed to defend his title at the Hong Kong Open. In the 2023 edition, he won after defeating Kenta Nishimoto (Japan).
