Ni Nengah Kirim's Personal Record, But Failed To Win Medals At The 2024 Paralympics

JAKARTA The athlete of Indonesia's weightlifters, Ni Nengah Widiasih, managed to break the personal record at the Paris 2024 Paralympics even though it was not enough to help him get a medal.

Ni Nengah again fell in the women's 41 kilograms and completed her journey in France with an lift of 101 kilograms. That number made her finish in fifth place.

The batch, which was inscribed at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, Paris, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, evening WIB, took Ni Nengah to break her personal record. The force weighs three kilograms heavier than when she won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

"Thank you for the support from all Indonesian people. Sorry this time I have not succeeded in bringing home a medal for Indonesia at the fourth Paralympics for me," said Ni Nengah.

Ni Nengah had tried to lift a load of 106 kilograms on the third occasion, but failed to lift. Other competitors are able to lift the load heavier.

The preparation of the athlete from Bali to appear at the 2024 Paralympics was met with challenges. One of them he suffered a shoulder injury whose pain was still felt at Paris.

Ni Nengah said that the injury was one of the factors that interfered with her appearance. However, he refused to be used as an excuse for his failure.

"What happened in this match has become God's will. I have not been allowed to become a champion at the Paris Paralympics," he said.

The weightlifting sport still leaves two representatives at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The two names are Siti Mahcepat and Sriyanti.

Siti Mahcepat, who will compete in the women's 79 kilogram match number, will compete on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Then, Sriyanti, who follows the women's +86 kilogram number, will compete on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
