Korea Open 2024: Leo/Bagas To Semifinals

Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana stepped into the semifinals of the Korea Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The men's doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana managed to get a ticket to the semifinals of the Korea Open 2024.

They qualified for the last four of the BWF Super 500 event after beating the hosts' doubles, Choi Sol Gyu/Heo Kwang Hee, two straight games 21-17 and 21-17 on Friday, August 30, 2024, afternoon WIB.

This is the second semifinal for the couple since their composition was overhauled. Previously, they also managed to step in the same round when they played at the Japan Open 2024 last week.

"We certainly feel happy to be back in the semifinals. However, don't feel too complacent because there is still tomorrow and the next match," Bagas said after the match.

At the beginning of the first game, Leo/Bagas easily scored three consecutive points. However, they then got tight resistance before winning just one point in the interval.

Two points in a row after that brought the Indonesian representatives away. However, they then had the highest 14-15 before producing four consecutive points to restore the situation.

"At the beginning of the first game we were under pressure. Moreover, we passed a lot of front balls, but we tried to keep trying and trying to get points. Finally we won in the first game," said Leo.

The number chase occurred at the beginning of the second game. There were a total of seven times the same position before the interval.

Leo/Bagas who had trailed 8-9 found momentum with six consecutive points. Their points continued to climb and were not overtaken at all by the opponent afterward.

"In the second game I tried to play bolder in making decisions. I didn't think about the mistakes made by my partners. We support each other. If you lose points, yes, you have to try even harder how to get the next point," said Leo.

Leo/Bagas are one of two Indonesian representatives who made it to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2024. One other representative is Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin who has not competed when this news was written.
