JAKARTA - The Central Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) revives racing events in the 402 meter class for the development of prospective racers in the straight track car racing segment or drag race through the Turbo Drag Fest 2024 event.

"Now (we) want to return (402 meters class as) dignity in the drag race so that they (racers) also have experience participating in the actual drag race," said Deputy Chairperson of Central IMI Mobility Rifat Sungkar, quoting ANTARA, Sunday, August 25.

He explained that the 402 meter class was increasingly being left behind in car racing events in the country due to the aspect of limited places or routes that matched their needs.

This condition makes the 201 meters class more present in straight track racing events because in terms of track support that is easy to obtain in various regions.

Rifat said IMI is trying to revive the 402 meter class because this class is a dignity from the drag race.

The racing event was held in three series starting from the first series at Cicangkal Airfield, Bogor on July 13-14, followed by the second series on July 27-28 and the third series from August 24-25 at Wiriadinata Air Base, Tasikmalaya, with a total of more than 1,000 starters.

Class 402 meters is always contested in the event so as to provide opportunities for racers to enjoy the real drag race.

"We are also still opening the 201 class because after all, it cannot be abandoned, but especially 402 so that they (racers) are also car setups according to the contested class," he concluded.

Rifat hopes that various parties who hold drag racing events in Indonesia in the future will also prioritize the 402 meter class so that this class will return to life to give birth to leading racers.
