Finally, Conor Gallagher Left Chelsea And Moved To Atletico Madrid

JAKARTA - Midfielder Conor Gallagher finally left Chelsea to join Atletico Madrid. Gallagher, who was awarded a five-year contract, was recruited for 34 million pounds.

Gallagher's transfer balance is over. Atletico confirmed that they had hooked up with Gallagher after being successful in Madrid because they did not get confirmation of transfers.

The 24-year-old's move was delayed after Chelsea failed to get the forward Atletico Samu Omorodion. Even Gallagher was already in Madrid for a medical test. But the plan was a mess and Chelsea asked their players to return to London and undergo regular training.

Moreover, Gallagher was the Blue pillar when handled by Mauricio Pochettino. He performed brilliant performance in Gallagher to enter the England squad which competed at Euro 2024. However, Gallagher actually made his national team debut in 2021. He has 18 caps and played five times at Euro 2024.

Only, his fate became uncertain after Pochettino no longer handled Chelsea. His position was replaced by Enzo Maresca who did not guarantee Gallagher to become the team's mainstay.

This is what makes Gallagher refuse to stay at Chelsea. Moreover, his contract will expire in the next 12 months. Both parties failed to reach an agreement to extend the contract.

On the other hand, Gallagher had agreed personally with Atletico. However, negotiations between the two clubs ran aground because Chelsea failed to get Omorodion.

After waiting, Gallagher finally got to Atletico. The transfer process went smoothly because Chelsea had already received Joao Felix from Atletico. He also got a contract until 2029.

"He has signed a contract until 2029. He has formally completed a medical test and will be introduced on 24 [August]," reads a post from journalist Fabrizio Romano on the X account.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have congratulated Gallagher who will face new challenges in La Liga Spain. He also became the next England player after Kierian Trippier who defended Atletico for three years. Trippier helped Atletico win La Liga 2021

"We wish Conor the best when he starts a new chapter in his career," the club said in an official statement.

Gallagher was the fourth player Atletico recruited. Previously, this Real Madrid city rival signed striker Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, Spanish national team defender Robin Le Normand and Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal.
