Thierry Henry Withdraws From France U-21 Coach After Winning The 2024 Olympic Silver

Thierry Henry has resigned from France's U-21 (Instagram/@fff) coach.

JAKARTA - Thierry Henry resigned from his post as French coach U-21 for personal reasons after winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Arsenal legend confirmed the news in a statement made by the French Football Federation.

"I would like to thank FFF and FFF President Philippe Diallo for giving me this extraordinary opportunity."

"Winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics for my country will remain one of the greatest prides of my life."

"I am very grateful to the federation, the players, staff, and supporters who have allowed me to experience a magical experience," Henry said as reported by The Sun.

Henry was appointed coach of France U-21 in August 2023 and won four of his six matches.

Henry's previous managerial experience was with Ligue 1 club Monaco, and Canadian club Montreal Impact.

With Monaco, he only lasted three months before being sacked in January 2019 after winning just four of 20 games.

He then joined Montreal at the end of 2019 and spent 15 months at the club. He packed nine wins in 29 matches.

At the 2024 Olympics with France, Henry led his team to top the group stage with a win over the United States, Guinea, and New Zealand.

They then beat Argentina's flagship team in the quarter-finals. Certainty towards the final was obtained by Les Bleus after overthrowing Egypt 3-1 in the semifinals through an extension round.

In the final, France came from 1-3 behind to take the game to an extension round thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta's equalizer at the end of normal time.

However, Spain then scored two goals through Sergio Camello to ensure the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Henry and his team had to settle for silver after losing 3-5.

After claiming a silver medal, Henry went viral on social media when he was caught with his players in a nightclub.
