Athletes Without 2024 Olympic Medals Get A Bonus Of IDR 250 Million

The government continues to appreciate athletes who return without medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics (doc. Kemensetneg).

JAKARTA Athletes who did not bring home medals from the Paris 2024 Olympic stage also received a bonus from the Government of IDR 250 million.

The bonus has been symbolically handed over by President Joko Widodo to representatives of athletes and coaches at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, August 15, 2024, morning WIB.

Jokowi in his remarks when receiving a group of athletes again detailed the amount of bonuses received by athletes and coaches who won gold and bronze medals. He then announced bonuses for athletes without medals.

"As well as Rp250 million for athletes who do not bring home medals as an appreciation from the Government," said Jokowi.

The symbolic bonus for the medalless athlete was received by shooting athlete Fathur Gustafian, while the medalless coach bonus was represented by gymnastics coach Eva Butar Butar.

Joko Widodo hopes that the bonus given by the government can be used as well as possible to support various training needs.

"This bonus should be used as well as possible to motivate, improve achievements, and then bring back the name of the nation and state in the world arena," he said.

The biggest bonus was received by gold medal-winning athletes Rizki Juniansyah and Veddriq Leonardo. These two athletes each received a lift of IDR 6 billion.

Rizki received a gold medal from the men's weightlifting sport in the 73 kilogram class. Then, Veddriq appeared on the highest podium from the men's rock speed climbing which was first contested at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, the bronze medalist, namely the women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, was showered with a bonus of IDR 1.65 billion.

The achievement of these two gold medals in Paris repeats Indonesia's success at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Two gold medals in one edition of the Olympics are still Indonesia's best achievements in the history of participation in the event.
