Rizki And Veddriq, 2024 Olympic Gold Winners Arrive In Indonesia

JAKARTA Lifter Rizki Juniansyah and climbing athlete Veddriq Leonardo, who won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, arrived Indonesia on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, WIB night.

Rizki Juniansyah flew with his daughter lifter Nurul Akmal. They landed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport first at 22:10 WIB.

Five minutes later, it was Veddriq Leonardo's turn to land with three other terbing climbing athletes, namely Rahmad Adi Mulyono, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, and Rajiah Sallsabillah.

The two groups arrived at the VVIP Room at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 22:40 WIB. They are awaited by a number of officials.

Some of them are PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir, Secretary General of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PBASI) Djoko Pramono, and Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo.

An interesting moment was seen when Rizki entered the press conference room. He walked while hugging his mother, who previously accompanied him in Paris.

Rizki climbed the highest podium and brought home the gold medal after the final. He recorded a total lift of 354 kilograms (snatch 155 kilograms and clean and jerk 199 kilograms).

The clean and jerk force led Rizki to break the Olympic record with a load of 199 kilograms. Previously, the record belonged to the Chinese lifter, Shi Zhyong, who had a record of 198 kg.

The athlete from Serang, Banten, is ahead of his competitor Weeraphon Wichuma (Thailand) who received silver and Bozhidar Andreev (Bulgaria) who brought home a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Veddriq brought home gold after stopping China's representative, Wu Peng, in the final. The athlete from Pontianak finished with a record 4.75 seconds or 0.02 seconds ahead of his opponent.
