Weightlifting For The 2024 Olympics: Eko Yuli Failed To Donate Medals For Indonesia

JAKARTA The lifter or weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan certainly cannot bring home a medal for Indonesia in the men's 61 kilograms at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 35-year-old athlete failed after being unable to lift the weight in three batches in clean and jerk on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, WIB night. He was also declared not to have finished.

Eko is second in the snatch. In this category, he managed to record an lift of 135 kilograms or far behind China's lifter, Li Fabin.

Fabin started the snatch with 137 kilograms in the first batch, then followed in a row 140 kilograms and 143 kilograms in the second and third batches.

The third batch of 143 kilograms successfully broke the Olympic record. Meanwhile, in this category, Eko failed in the first and third batches, each with 135 kilograms and 139 kilograms.

In the clean and jerk, Eko tried with 162 kilograms in the first and second batch, before weighing 165 kilograms in the third batch. Unfortunately, all the experiments failed.

The failure was triggered by pain in the right side of the waist while trying to forward the burden on the head. He looks forgetful in pain in the second and third batches.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are the fifth Olympics for Eko Yuli Irawan. In the previous four editions, athletes from Metro, Lampung, gave a total of four medals for Indonesia.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, Eko brought home bronze. Meanwhile, at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he got silver.

From the weightlifting sport, Indonesia now just has to hope that Rizki Juniansyah. The 21-year-old athlete will play in the men's 73 kilogram class on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Then, there is also Nurul Akmal who will drop in the women's +81 kilogram class on August 11, 2024.
