IBL 2024 Champion, Pelita Jaya Ends Seven Years Of Waiting

Pelita Jaya broke the curse of the IBL final (doc. IBL).

JAKARTA The Pelita Jaya Jakarta basketball club ended a long wait of seven years after confirming itself as the 2024 Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) champion.

The last time Pelita Jaya managed to become the IBL champion occurred in the 2017 edition.

This season, Pelita Jaya locked the title from the highest level of the Indonesian basketball league aged to beat their rival, Satria Muda Pertamina, with a score of 2-1 in a three-game match, Sunday, August 4, 2024.

"I am very proud of what has been achieved by this team. Our task is to continue to grow and become a more solid team towards next season," said Johannis Winar, Pelita Jaya coach.

Pelita Jaya actually started the final match this year with a defeat in the first game 71-84. They then got up and won the next two matches.

In the second game they beat the opposing team with an 82-70 position. While in the third game they decided, they recorded a victory with a score of 73-65.

"This victory is not only a historic moment for Pelita Jaya, but also provides new hope for supporters that this team can continue to compete and achieve achievements in the future," said Johannis Winar.

This is the fourth IBL title in Pelita Jaya's history. In addition, this result made Pelita Jaya qualify for the 2025 FIBA Basketball Champions League (BCL) Asia Qualifiers.

Next year's performance at the event is the second time they have brought the name Indonesia. Previously, they made their debut in 2024 and managed to sit in the top five of Asia.

The title IBL 2024 also breaks the final curse for Pelita Jaya. In the previous three final editions, the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons, they always bite their fingers.
