JAKARTA - Liverpool have rejected offers for Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo and Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.

Offers for Endo worth 11.8 million came from French club Olympique de Marseille.

Marseille are interested in signing the 31-year-old player because of the whispers of the new manager, Roberto de Zerbi.

As is known, the Italian coach had already fought Endo when he was Brighton coach last season.

De Zerbi clearly understands how good Endo is even though he has never worked together. However, Liverpool fenced off the Japanese national team player who had a contract until 2027.

The Reds are also aware that there is further interest in the defensive midfielder from German clubs, apart from Marseille.

However, they emphasized that Endo will stay at Anfield, especially next season.

The 31-year-old player joined Liverpool from Stuttgart on a four-year contract. He was bought for around 16.2 million pounds in August 2023.

He made 43 appearances, including 20 times as a starter in the Premier League last season. Endo helped the Reds win the League Cup in his debut season at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Liverpool must also work hard to keep Van den Berg.

Mainz openly wants to make the 22-year-old defender permanent with a transfer status after appearing impressive as a loan player.

Van den Berg was loaned to Mainz last season. He played in 33 league games and scored three goals while helping Mainz stay in the Bundesliga.

However, Liverpool Manager Arne Slot doesn't want to release any players because their transfer maneuvers on the stock exchange this summer are sluggish.

Until now, the Red has not recruited new players.

No wonder, just like Endo, Slot chose to keep Van den Berg. Mainz finally resigned because Liverpool were selling prices beyond expectations.

The Bundesliga club initially believed the value of Van den Berg was around 8.4 million pounds. However, the Reds set a price close to 20 million pounds for the centre-back.

Van den Berg are currently with Liverpool on their pre-season tour in the United States. He was a starter in the win against Real Betis.

The 22-year-old defender joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in June 2019. Since then, he has been loaned to Preston, Schalke 04, and Mainz.

Apart from Mainz, the Eredivisie club, PSV Eindhoven, is also reportedly targeting Van den Berg. However, they have not made an official offer.
