JAKARTA The Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) targets the Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team to qualify for the U-21 World Championship or the FIVB Volleyball Men's U-21 World Championship by 2025.

Tickets to get there can be obtained by Indonesia when appearing at the AVC Asian Men's Volleyball Championship which will be held on 23-30 July 2024 in Surabaya, East Java. In total there are 16 countries that are contestants in the event.

PBVSI General Chair, Imam Sudjarwo, said that to qualify for the World Championships, Indonesia must be one of the four best teams in the AVC later.

"Taking the four best to participate in the 2025 U-21 World Championships. We hope to enter the top four so that we play in the World Championships. That's our target," said Imam.

At the AVC Asian Men's U-20 Volleyball Championship later, Indonesia will be in Pool A with Hong Kong, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. To qualify for the World Championships, Indonesia must win Pool A.

Imam said the team that entered the event was quite mature because the players had been honed at the 2024 Proliga and the 2024 AVC Men's Challenge Cup which took place in Bahrain.

"Our preparation is 95 percent. Moreover, a month ago Garuda Jaya was shifted to Surabaya for effective and efficient training there. So, the preparation is very sufficient," said Imam.

A total of 12 volleyball players will play in AVC. These names were selected through a long process since the National Championships (Kejurnas) in 2023.

Garuda Jaya manager, Loudry Maspaitella, said that currently there are 14 names that have been brought to Surabaya. However, only 12 can be played because it is in accordance with AVC rules.

"We see progress compared to yesterday's Proliga. Everything is getting better and we will see the results on July 23, 2024," said Loudry.

Indonesia had previously intended to propose to host the 2025 U-21 World Championship. However, until now the status of the host has not been decided by the world volleyball parent (FIVB).
