Sallsabillah Is Still Haunted By Injury Ahead Of The 2024 Olympics

JAKARTA Indonesian rock climbing athlete, Rajiah Sallsabillah, is still haunted by injury. However, the opportunity to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics is not threatened.

The information was conveyed by the General Chair of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation, Yenny Wahid, while attending the launch of the Indonesian contingent uniform for the Olympics in Jakarta on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

"I want to ask for prayers from all Indonesian people, especially for Sallsabillah because he is currently injured in the backbone, in the lumbar," said Yenny.

Sallsabillah is one of four rock climbing athletes who will appear in Paris later. The other three who qualified with him were Desak Made Rita Kusuma, Rahmad Adi Mulyono, and Veddriq Leonardo.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The rock climbing sport will start competing on August 5, 2024.

With only a month remaining, FPTI could not do much for the injury. The step so far is to provide therapy with a medical corridor to reduce pain.

"To treat the pain alone, you can't because it will have an impact on the medicines you consume and so on. I'm afraid it won't pass the doping test," said Yenny.

This long-standing injury was still felt by the athlete when he appeared in the Olympic qualifying round which took place in Budapest, Hungary, in June 2024.

Yenny said that she could imagine what pain was like because she had suffered from a similar problem. However, he was proud that Sallsabillah never gave up.

"After the 2024 Paris Olympics, we were able to think of a more permanent approach in nature to overcome the pain, but at this time we can't. The program continues to use sport science," he said.

The four rock climbing athletes will both appear in the men's and women's speed numbers. Previously, this number was not contested at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With the speed number and boulder and lead numbers at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the total number of medals for rock climbing has doubled to four medals from two in Tokyo.

A significant increase also occurred in the number of rock climbing athletes participating in Paris compared to the Tokyo Olympics. Previously in Tokyo, only 40 athletes participated, while in Paris it would be 68 athletes.
