The Handling Of Zhang Zhi Jie Is Considered Inaccurate

JAKARTA The incident of the death of Chinese men's singles athlete, Zhang Zhi Jie, in the 2024 Badminton Asia Junior Championship (BAJC) tournament which took place in Yogjakarta continues to be criticized.

One of these criticisms comes from the badminton player who specializes in mixed doubles from China, Zheng Si Wei. He highlighted the death of the young athlete through the latest upload on Instagram on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

He mafhum that the incident experienced by his junior could happen at any time and happen to anyone. However, handling correctly and quickly will be able to help someone's life.

"What makes me angry is that the situation was not handled properly and on time," Huang Yaqiong wrote in the mixed doubles.

Zheng hopes that this incident can attract the attention of the Badminton Asia Federation (BAC) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) as well as the wider public so that in the future similar incidents can be handled better.

"It was very difficult for me to imagine how Zhang Zhi Jie's family felt as they watched the live broadcast of the match," he said.

Zhang Zhi Jie collapsed on the field while competing against the Japanese men's singles, Kazuma Kabano, at the Among Rogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

In the circulating footage, Zhang is seen lying on his stomach and then convulsing. A few moments later he just received treatment from medics in the field.

After that the athlete was rushed to the hospital. However, life could not be saved and was declared dead at 23.20 by PBSI in an official statement.
