Paris Residents Threaten To Defecate In The Seine River, A Form Of Protests For The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA - The organizers of the 2024 Paris Olympics are working hard to make the SEEne River water clean and safe to swim. The effort cost 1.2 billion or equivalent to IDR 24.9 trillion.

The plan is that the Seaine River will host the triathlon branch and open water swimming and the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024.

However, what the organizers did was met with opposition from Parisians. They rallied while spreading the threat of defecation in the Seine River.

The threat is a form of massive protest against the cost of cleaning the SEEne River water. The demonstration was held massively five weeks before the first triathlon event on July 30, 2024.

"I defecated in the Seaine River on June 23, 2024," read the writings of the protesters.

"They have plunged us into the dirt, now it's their turn to throw themselves into our dirt," read another post.

June 23, 2024, is the agenda of the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, to swim in the Seek River to prove that the water is clean enough for the 2024 Paris Olympics athletes.

However, the agenda was postponed due to the swift wave of protests. Until now, President Emmanuel Macron has not set a new date to fulfill his promise to swim in the Sea River before the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Some reports say the plan was shifted after the French elections in July 2024.

Meanwhile, demonstrations were also massive on social media. In fact, there is a special site containing protest tones against the holding of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"The problem is that all the resources that have been invested have not been to solve all the social problems we are currently facing."

"We feel abandoned. We see where their priority is," the website maker told Actu Paris.

Although cleaning operations cost money, a report published on Friday, June 21, 2024, shows that the SEEne River's water is still too dirty for the 2024 Paris Olympics venue.

Water samples show a high number of genusal bacteria, including Escherichia Coli, in water and do not meet the standards set by the organizers.
