PSSI And PT LIB Make Sure The League Continues To Roll During The 2024 AFF Cup

Persib Bandung appeared in the opening match of Liga 1 2024/2025 against PSBS Biak (doc. Persib).

JAKARTA - The schedule for Liga 1 2024/2025 has been agreed upon by PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) as the operator and PSSI. From the coordination meeting, it was agreed that the competition would continue during the 2024 AFF Cup and only took a day off during the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

The competition schedule agreement was made by PT LIB and PSSI for the duration of the next three seasons. This was done so as not to clash between the schedule of the Indonesian national team and League 1.

"We saw the SEA Games (2025) target. It was decided that Liga 1 would stop. However, during the 2024 AFF Cup, (the competition) did not stop. Of course there is a calculation. It does not mean that we are looking behind our eyes at the AFF Cup," said Erick Thohir during a press conference in the Jakarta area on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

"The consequences of League 1 and the Indonesian national team must run. Moreover, there are inter-club tournaments in Southeast Asia and Asia. There is no way players will play for 365 days. Of course there will be breaks," said Erick Thohir.

The 2025 SEA Games will be held on 7-19 December 2025. Based on this, it is certain that it will not interfere with the 2024/2025 Liga 1 schedule which may end in May 2025.

Meanwhile, the 2024 AFF Cup will take place on November 23-21 December 2024. In that tournament, the Indonesian national team entered Group B with Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.

The 2024 AFF Cup, which is not included in the FIFA calendar, is scheduled to be close to the third round of the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup Qualifiers which will take place on November 11-19 2024.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN), Sumardji, said that the synchronization of the schedule made between domestic competition and the agenda of the Indonesian national team allowed the players to join the Garuda Squad four days before the FIFA Matchday period began.

"Regarding the summons schedule, the point is that in D-4, the players have gathered with the Indonesian national team. The synchronized schedule is well arranged between PT LIB and BTN," said Sumardji.

For the schedule for the start of Liga 1 2024/2025, PSSI and PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) decided to withdraw from the initial schedule to August 9, 2024. Persib Bandung vs PSBS Biak is the opening match.

Persib is the defending champion of Liga 1 2023/2024 after defeating Madura United. Meanwhile, PSBS is the 2023/2024 Liga 2 champion after defeating Semen Padang.

Previously, on May 31, 2024, PT LIB had determined that the start of Liga 1 2024/2025 would be held on August 2, 2024.
